8 Types of Auto Insurance Coverage You Should Consider

Bodily Injury Liability

This covers the cost of injuries and deaths in an accident that you were found to have caused.

02.

Property Damage Liability

This covers the cost of repairs or replacements of damaged properties in an accident that you were found to have caused.

03.

Personal Injury Protection

Injuries will be covered by your own policy regardless of who was at fault for the accident. Also known as “No Fault”

04.

Collision Coverage

This covers the cost of repairs in a collision whether another vehicle is involved or not.

05.

Comprehensive Coverage

This covers losses in events where the damage was not caused by a collision.

06.

Uninsured / Under-Insured

This covers losses in accidents where the other party does not have insurance or does not have enough insurance. It can also be used in hit-and-run situations.

07.

Roadside Assistance

This optional coverage helps with any roadside service that may be needed including but not limited to a tow, fixing a flat, jump starting the battery, and being locked out of your car.

08.

Rental Car

This optional coverage covers the cost of having to rent a car while your car is being repaired due to an accident.

Car Dealership

A commercial auto insurance policy is required under most circumstances when the vehicle is used for business purposes and meets certain other requirements. It is not just the registration that determines the requirement for a business automobile insurance policy. Other requirements are ownership by a corporation, use in hauling goods for hire and gross vehicle weight of the vehicle. Some small trucks can be owned and insured under a personal automobile insurance policy under specific circumstances.

Commercial automobile insurance policies are not regulated in pricing, as are private passenger policies. There is price competition between insurance companies for good commercial automobile insurance.

Minimum Amount of Liability Coverage

The liability insurance coverage needs to stay in effect while the registration of the vehicle is valid, regardless of whether it is used or not. It also needs to be issued in the name of the person who registered the vehicle. Only policies issued by New York auto insurance companies licensed by the State Department of Financial Services and certified by the state’s DMV will be acceptable.
